This is the most disturbing—while important—post I have submitted to date. (NOTE: This is PART ONE of a Two Part Posting).
Since my last posting, I experienced unwanted pornographic exposure on facebook (supposing, from a “friend” of one of “my friends”). The picture (face) was that of an older Caucasian male who appeared one day with a greeting of “Good Morning”. Well, I did not recognize his face and he was not a “friend”, so I ignored it.
The next day, the same “face” sends a message again with, “Hi, Gorgeous”. Well, this got my attention; however, I was still skeptical. So I looked at his name and it noted that we shared a “mutual” friend. Therefore, I went outside of my facebook page to investigate the name; as a result, I was able to access his facebook page. The top of his timeline was pleasant—bible verses and inspiring quotes. Then I scrolled down—GRAPHIC PORN! 🙁
Now I wanted him OFF OF MY FACEBOOK. Therefore, I had to research to learn “how to delete a message from facebook”; as well as, BLOCK the person. I did this successfully!
I immediately thought about our YOUTH who are on facebook constantly and sent a prayer.
Later in the week I was watching the Dr. Drew TV show on HLN; and he was interviewing a self-proclaimed pedophile. In fact, Dr. Drew mentioned that when he was in private practice, that 60% of his patients were self-proclaimed addicted pedophiles.
So, now between me experiencing the “facebook perpetrator” and the startling data from Dr. Drew, I became curious about the statistics concerning pedophiles and the internet.
Some of my Findings are Below:
- Facebook porn scam infects 110k users in 48 hours . . . By Alan Martin POSTED 2 FEB 2015
- Facebook Porn and Gore Exploit Spiraling Out Of Control – For the past few days an exploit has been hijacking Facebook users accounts and posting explicit gore and pornography to users’ timelines. . . .By Violet Blue for Pulp Tech | November 14, 2011 –

NOW, for those who know me, I believe in spending only a
SMALL amount of time in “the problem” . . .
while MOST of my time is with THE SOLUTION.
You see, when I saw the graphic porn, I immediately thought about an innocent child and/or teenager (of either gender) . . . I thought about how he/she would have wanted to know how to CONTINUE accessing this “fascinating discovery” versus how I wanted it stopped.
After researching the best ways to protect our children from the “bad guys”, amazingly, “The Universe” allowed me to stumble across many “solution-driven” sites that I hope will be useful AND used by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, caregivers, churches, schools, educators, etc.
Protect Your Children From Internet Pedophiles –
from Dr. Phil’s website . . . .
“One in four children in chat rooms on the Internet will be solicited by a child predator. These pedophiles seek a target-rich environment for finding their prey, and the Internet has become their flocking ground. To ensure that your children and household are safe from the threat of these predators, consider these tips from Detective James Brown, officer in charge of the LAPD’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit:” READ MORE FROM DR. PHIL
Then, a most AMAZING discovery . . .
Then, a most AMAZING Discovery from me (Ms. Google-Queen 🙂 ) follows:
The Yello Dyno Method™ ensures your children automatically recall right action and act on it in a crisis. Scientifically based on the Nobel Prize-winning research of Dr. Roger Sperry concerning the functional specialization of the cerebral hemispheres and the internationally recognized research on children in crisis of Dr. Bruce Perry.
‘Nine out of ten children aged between eight and sixteen have viewed pornography on the Internet. In most cases, the sex sites were accessed unintentionally when a child, often in the process of doing homework, used a seemingly innocent sounding word to search for information or pictures. – London School of Economics, January 2002”

By now you might be asking the question, “What does any of this have to do with addiction and/or recovery?” . . . then know that in my 20-years of counseling people with severe chemical addictions, MOST used alcohol and other drugs to keep secrets from being sexually abused as a child.
From one of my favorite books for professionals and those in recovery, THE RECOVERY BOOK, by Dr. Al J. Mooney, it reads: “…some can’t stay both sober and alive unless they face the deep-seated problems in their past (or present) lives. . . . So while it’s crucial for you to get treated for your addiction, you must also deal with the demons inside”. It’s sad that “the demons” are owned not just by the perpetrator, but by the victim as well.
I know that this topic is difficult . . .
however, I grew up during the sexual revolution AND censorship; our children are in “anything-goes”-times, in a culture WITH very relaxed values (if any) with an open-cyberspace-door to predators!
I recently read a comment on someone’s website that said “the internet is the root of all evil”.
I believe that OUR role (let’s tie together!) is to help REMOVE the fear of the inevitable evil and to heighten awareness and empower the children AND families with information and tools to overcome evil (souls need support!).
There is MUCH MORE solution-driven information to address this topic . . . so, I’m making a PART TWO to this topic in order to not have Information Overload.
THE ROY-BLOG BITE:
My Buddy, Roy is back ♥ !! . . . and other than he assisting me with the title of this post, Roy goes on to instruct and ask you, the reader, the following:
“Look at your watch.
Do you know who your child is on-line with?”
STAY-TUNED: The more I researched, the more I discovered such EXCELLENT, helpful information to protect our children.

THIS WEEK’s RECOVERY QUOTE:
“A single tiny light creates a space where darkness cannot exist.
The light vanquishes the darkness. Try as it might, the darkness cannot conquer the light.”
